Key Stage 4 (Years 10 and 11)

 

September 2008 sees the first intake of Key Stage 4 (Year 10) student at DMBS.

Courses


At this key stage (15 to 16 years old), all students follow the British Curriculum which offers a full range of courses leading to International General Certificate of Education Examinations (IGSCE) and General Certificate of Secondary Education (GCSE). These courses provide a curriculum and method of assessment appropriate for a wide ability range. It is designed as a two-year curriculum programme leading to a certificate which is internationally recognized.

 

Grades
Both the IGCSE and GCSE examinations are suitable for the whole ability range of students. It has an 8-point scale of grades: A*, A, B, C, D, E, F and G. Grade A* is awarded for the highest level of achievement; Grade G indicates minimum performance. Students at DMBS are expected to achieve grades A*-C to progress to higher studies.

 

Subject Choices
Outlined below are the subject choices for students DMBS.

 

Progress
The progress of students is carefully monitored throughout the I/GCSE course and they are taught to set their own targets, plan their study time and take actions to reach their goals.


Core Subjects- all students take the following:

Optional Subjects- Students must select one from each line:

English

Arabic or French (see note below)*

Mathematics

History or Geography

Science (Double Award)

Art (Fine Arts) or Physical Education

ICT (Information, Communication and Technology)

 

 

*Language- Students must choose a second language. It is expected 1st Language Arabic speakers will take Arabic.

 

As well as the above students will participate in PSHE and community projects throughout the school.

 

Fees
The external examination boards that conduct the I/GCSE examinations charge for this service. The school also charges an administration fee for courier costs, after-hours invigilation and other costs involved in administering the examinations.
Parents must cover the examination fees as an additional cost, separate from the DMBS school fees.
